Kentland Community Supporter
Meet Curt Puetz. Curt has been a supporter of Kentland for years, working at Fowler State Bank. His involvement has included the Retail Merchants, Rotary Club, and other local events.
Beginnings at Fowler State Bank
I grew up in Benton County, just south of Kentland, and went to Benton Central High School. When I graduated college, I had the opportunity to come back and work for the local community bank of Fowler State Bank and have been here ever since. When I started, I was in our agricultural loan department. As time progressed, we decided to open up a new branch in Kentland about 20 years ago. At that time, I joined our group of staff in the Kentland market working in installment, real estate, commercial, and agricultural lending. I also supported and manage branch activities and connections with the local community, including the Kentland Area Chamber, Rotary Club, Junior Achievement or other local activities.
I’ve always enjoyed being a hands-on community member. When I graduated from school, I had the chance to interview with big corporations, but I’m more inclined to be a “”big fish in a small town” than a “small fish in a big city.” I love getting to know people on a continuing basis and understanding their lives and stories.
What I like most about small communities is that it’s very common for us to have clients for extended periods of time, even up to 40+ years. I enjoy meeting with new and existing clients and building trust and rapport with them. Our clients know that we are going to do what is in their best interest; they aren’t a number to us, we want to work with them long-term.
Getting Involved in the Community
Finding something that you’re passionate about in your community is the first step to making a contribution to your town. Whether it’s parks, economic development, community service organizations, or your local church, being a part of it and making connections with other people in the community is important.
I am involved in our local Kentland Retail Merchants. The group focuses on several events during the year, including a common cookout during Kentland alumni weekend. We try to coordinate with yard sales and hopefully encourage people to come back to the community, whether they’re local or further away. I’m also involved with the Kentland Rotary Organization, where we complete local service projects and raise money for community activities and other organizations.
Kentland’s Legacy
Some of my favorite places to frequent in Kentland are Don’s Drive-In, Monical’s Pizza, and The Good Table. Kentland has also done a great job maintaining and improving their community parks. Each one seems to have its own flavor.
I think Kentland should be known for its hometown feel and for its people willing to support our local businesses. We have many residents who have been here for decades and are reinvesting in the town, like supporting the grocery store updates. These improvement projects show pride for our community and our commitment to making Kentland a great place to live.
