Kentland Community Supporter: Caleb Lottes

Resident Highlight

This month we sat down with Caleb Lottes. He discussed his connections with Kentland, his experience on the Task Force and the town’s legacy. Read more below to learn about Caleb and his experience in Kentland.

Beginnings

I grew up in Evansville, Indiana, and attended IUPUI, Ivy Tech, and WGU, where I got a degree in Information Systems Technology Management. Shortly after, I found myself moving around the south frequently for my career, which eventually brought me back home to Indiana. I started at Amazon in 2018 working in operations before moving into program management for global transportation content and communication. Currently, I work with stakeholders to gain an understanding of project needs. A lot of training, researching, and developing goes on during this process. Once that content is created, the next step is to look for applicability in other markets. Creating training and marketing content for safety initiatives in the transportation space is the main task for my role at Amazon.

Moving to Kentland

My wife, Kendra, received a job offer close to Kentland and we decided pretty quickly to move. We stayed with my in-laws temporarily before moving into our own place in March of this year. Kendra and I have three sons: Benjamin, William, and Jonathan, and we’re very excited to be raising them in our new home.

When we moved to Kentland, I wanted to find ways that I could be involved. Coming in as an outsider, I was welcomed into the Task Force, and I’m gaining an understanding of what our roadmap looks like to create a sustainable environment for the future. It’s really beneficial to be able to see individuals that want to see the town be successful and that care for it.

A Growth Mindset

I believe that getting involved within our community is one of the greatest contributions we can make to our town. Everyone can do something– donations can be put to work through the Kentland Thrive Community Fund, time can be donated through the several events that are held and even just showing support to the local business, artists and vendors by attending events.

One of the first things that stuck out to me was the growth mindset of the community. Kentland should be known for its progress and not being stagnant. If we could be a beacon for other small towns to help kick them into growth, I think that is an awesome thing to be known for.
