We sat down with Kentland business owner Jim Schoen to chat about his life, recent agency acquisition, and experiences in Kentland. Read more below on about this month’s community supporter!
Beginnings
I grew up in Oxford, Indiana, about 20 miles from Kentland, and attended Benton Central High School. I graduated from DePauw University, where I obtained a degree in accounting and business. I am married and have three sons, who have all married.
Hoosier Associates
Hoosier Associates is a fourth-generation independent insurance agency, representing seven different insurance and specialty companies. My grandfather and father founded the business in 1956 and I later joined in 1979. My two sons have also joined within the last ten years to make it our fourth generation. We work primarily in personal lines, small businesses, and crop insurance for farmers. We acquired Kindell Insurance Services agency in Kentland recently and are in the process of transitioning that into our agency.
We’ve been in Kentland since 2010 when we purchased PNS Agency from Ed and Vada Wilson. It was perfect timing as we were also looking to expand. We saw this as the perfect opportunity to establish the business in the Newton County area.
Kentland’s Legacy
Kentland is blessed with a lot of really nice parks, great small businesses, and many who are involved in the community.
The people of Kentland are very friendly, and the pride of business ownership is like no other. The community has a desire to keep their town up, to shop locally, and to support their small businesses. Kentland is truly a great community to be a part of!
